Formerly best known as a 1983 Heavy Metal super-hit, Holy Diver will now forever be intertwined with Big Time Gaming’s latest and greatest creation. For the first time, players are introduced to the Reel Adventure™ mechanics. A new way of taking on the slots that makes it a truly unique experience. Played on a 6-reel engine (slaps roof of the car), this bad boy can fit so many Megaways. And, as usually is the case with these guys, it comes packed with potential.
Holy Diver Overview
Holy Diver is a fusion of many things, but most obviously it’s an online slot with video game type animations set in the dark ages. Although the sunny blue skies do make it appear anything but dark. As we’ve been told, Holy Diver actually dates back to the time of Bonanza. But work on it was not completed until now. Visually, it does look like a classic Big Time Gaming slot. And bears some resemblance to Dragon Born (2016) in our opinion.
Known for their high potential and ultra high variance slots, it’s the first thing most of us want to know more about when we hear of a new BTG release. Well, in terms of volatility it’s not nearly as brutal as some of the other titles, making it slightly more wager-friendly as it seems but the potential is there nonetheless.
On the reels you’ll find low-value A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 royals as well as 4 gems – the purple one being the most valuable giving you 15 times the stake for 6 across a full payline. If you’re used to playing Bonanza, you will likely be able to tell that the symbols are not nearly of the same value here. It doesn’t mean that the game lacks potential, it’s just delivered in a unique way as you will see.
Holy Diver Slot Features
It is the newly introduced Reel Adventure™ concept that gives the game its unique structure. Here players are given the opportunity to upgrade their game. Thus allowing more chances to win as well as increasing the potential. Below the reel set, which can fit up to 7 symbols per reel and expand up to 117k win ways in the base game, an animated knight moves along a path. And when coming across a treasure chest, which he does roughly every 1 to 5 spins, he kicks it to reveal 1 of 4 reel modifiers:
- Standard Symbol Bonus – One of the low-value symbols is randomly chosen and converted into a wild.
- Sword Bonus – In true Danger! High Voltage fashion, it adds up to 3 full wild reels with a multiplier up to x7.
- Fireball Bonus – Shoots up to 4 wild symbols onto the reels.
- Gem Symbol Bonus* – Awards one or more Gems which are then transformed into wilds. The wilds can come as x2 or x3 multipliers as you push your way through the levels.
Holy Diver does not include a traditional scatter symbol. Instead, players need to collect gems revealed in the chests. It takes 4 of them, one of each color, to trigger the bonus feature. However, there’s a twist to it. Instead of playing the free spin feature at progression level 1. You can decline to play the bonus and upgrade to level 2 instead. This will then take you back to the base game where you will play with an upgraded x2 wild multiplier.
