Quick answer: A live dealer casino is an online casino where a real person deals the cards on camera. You bet from your phone or laptop. The cards and the wheel are physical. Only your bets and your balance live in software. Bovada, BetOnline, MyBookie, Wild Casino, Super Slots and Ignition all stream live tables around the clock.

Software casino games settle in a split second. You never see a card get pulled. Live dealer games fix that. You watch a person deal, in real time, from a studio table.

There are trade-offs. Live tables cost more per hand. They run slower. And they almost never help you clear a bonus. Here is how the format works, and which offshore casinos run the strongest live rooms.

Key Takeaways

  • A live dealer table is a real table, filmed. Real cards, a real wheel and a real dealer. Software only handles your bets, your chips and the chat box.
  • Minimums run higher than software tables. BetOnline’s own page puts standard live blackjack at $50 to $100 a hand. Its VIP live tables run $500 up to $50,000.
  • Live play usually counts zero toward a casino bonus. Bovada’s bonus terms weight live casino at 0%. Super Slots and Wild Casino shut live casino out of bonus play.
  • There is no free demo mode. A live table needs a funded account. Software tables often let you practice for free.
  • The game choice is deep. Ignition’s live lobby lists 50 blackjack tables, 19 roulette tables and 21 live card games.

What is a live dealer casino?

A live dealer casino is an online casino section where real people run the games on video. You join a table and buy in with your account balance. You bet through buttons on your screen. The dealer deals to a camera and talks to the table out loud.

Ignition describes its own setup plainly. Real people work in a casino studio. They run the tables the same way they would on a casino floor. The action is filmed and streamed in real time.

Compare that to a normal online table game. Those run on a random number generator. That is software that picks each card or number at random. Nothing physical happens.

Casinos use “live casino,” “live dealer” and “live table games” for the same product. Super Slots and Wild Casino split theirs into two lobbies named Black and Red.

How does a live dealer game actually work?

The dealer stands at a real table in a studio. Cameras film the card shoe, the wheel and the dealer. That video streams to your device with a betting layer on top.

Here is the order of play:

  1. You pick a table. Each one shows its own minimum and maximum bet before you sit down.
  2. You choose a screen name. Wild Casino allows up to 10 characters, with no spaces and no special characters. Other players at the table see it.
  3. A betting window opens and a clock counts down. You click your chips onto the spot you want.
  4. The dealer deals or spins. Your screen shows the result and settles your bet.
  5. The next round starts. You can also type to the dealer and the table in a chat box.

Two extras only exist on live tables. Ignition’s live blackjack lets you “back bet.” That means you match another player’s bet and win or lose with them. Some live blackjack tables also offer an early payout. You hand your cards back mid-hand, and the table works out a payout for you.

Pro Tip: Check the table limit before you click, not after. Live lobbies at BetOnline and Wild Casino list a $1 blackjack table right next to a $500 one. It is easy to sit down at the wrong seat.

Which games can you play at a live dealer casino?

Live rooms carry table games, not slots. A slot needs no dealer, so there is nothing to film.

The offshore casinos we cover sort their live lobbies into six or seven sections:

  • Blackjack. The biggest section everywhere. You try to finish closer to 21 than the dealer without going over.
  • Roulette. European wheels have one zero. American wheels add a double zero. Both are dealt live.
  • Baccarat. You bet on Banker, Player or a tie. The higher hand wins. Speed and Turbo versions deal faster.
  • Super 6. Baccarat with five side bets and a different Banker payout. The Banker skips the usual 5% commission. But a Banker win with 6 points only pays half.
  • Casino poker. Tables like Tri Card Poker, 6+ Poker and Bet On Poker. You play a small poker hand against the house, not against other players.
  • Game shows and lottery games. Wheel Of Fortune, Football Grid, Lucky Kicks, Crypt of Giza and live number draws.

Live blackjack also carries side bets you will not see on software tables. Ignition lists a Pairs bet that pays 11:1 when your first two cards match in rank. It also lists a Rummy bet that pays 9:1. To win that one, your two cards plus the dealer’s face-up card must make three of a kind, three of a suit or a run. Its live baccarat adds a Dragon Bonus that pays up to 30:1 on a wide win.

If craps is your game, live rooms will disappoint you. Craps needs a shooter and a crowd, so almost nobody streams it. Our craps for beginners guide covers how the online version works instead.

Which offshore casinos have the best live dealer tables?

All six casinos below run live tables 24/7. All six are offshore casinos that take U.S. players. The order reflects the size of the live lobby and the spread of stakes on offer. Every figure was read from the operator’s own live casino pages on September 7, 2026.

Bovada runs the broadest room. Its live games come from two studios, Gold Tier Gaming and Dynamite Interactive. Its live baccarat and roulette tables start at $1. More detail sits in our Bovada Casino review.

BetOnline is the pick if you want size. Its own page names three live providers: Fresh Deck Studios, Visionary iGaming and GLS. One Fresh Deck VIP blackjack table runs from $500 to $50,000 a hand. Our BetOnline Casino review covers the rest of the casino.

MyBookie leans hard into roulette. Its live lobby stacks Auto Roulette, Turbo Roulette, Space Ball Roulette, Vegas Roulette and more than a dozen others. Blackjack is sorted into Bronze, Silver, Gold and VIP tables. See our MyBookie review for banking and bonus terms.

Wild Casino and Super Slots share the same platform, so their live rooms look almost identical. Super Slots publishes the friendlier floor at $5 minimums.

How do live dealer tables compare to regular online casino games?

The gap is bigger than most new players expect.

What you getLive dealer tableSoftware table

PaceSlower — you wait for the dealer and the other seatsFast — you set the speed

Bonus rollover creditUsually 0%Slots 100%, blackjack and roulette 5% to 10%

The pace point matters more than it sounds. Slower play means fewer hands per hour. Fewer hands means the house edge grinds your money down more slowly. A slow game is a cheaper game per hour, even at a higher minimum.

Why don’t live dealer games count toward casino bonuses?

Because the casinos say so in the terms, and they are direct about it. Live tables have a low house edge. They also run slow and chatty, which is hard to police. So operators keep bonus money away from them.

Bovada’s bonus terms put “Live Casino (all types)” at a 0% wagering contribution. Rule 16 spells it out: craps and live casino play do not count toward rollover for withdrawal. Super Slots and Wild Casino go further. Their bonus contribution pages state that live casino is excluded from active bonus play.

That has a real effect on your money. Deposit with a bonus attached, then bet on a live table, and the bonus can become impossible to clear. At some books, playing an excluded game voids the bonus and the winnings with it.

Pro Tip: Decline the casino bonus if live dealer is your plan. Your deposit stays withdrawable the moment it lands. No rule tells you which tables to sit at. A bonus you cannot clear is not a bonus.

Which live dealer bets give you the best odds?

Live rooms deal the same games as a casino floor, so the same math applies. House edge is the share of each bet the casino keeps over the long run. Lower is better for you.

Live table betHouse edgeWhat it means on a $100 bet
Blackjack, basic strategy, liberal rules0.28%About 28 cents
Baccarat, Banker bet1.06%About $1.06
Roulette, single zero (European)2.70%About $2.70
Roulette, double zero (American)5.26%About $5.26
Three Card Poker, Pair Plus side bet7.28%About $7.28

Three habits follow from that table.

Pick the European wheel. Both wheels sit in the same live lobby at Bovada, BetOnline, MyBookie and Ignition. The single-zero version costs you roughly half as much per spin.

Bet the Banker in baccarat. It is the cheapest bet on the table. That holds even after the 5% commission the casino takes on a Banker win.

Skip most side bets. Pairs, Rummy, Dragon Bonus and Pair Plus pay big and cost a lot. They are entertainment, not value.

Blackjack rewards basic strategy. That is the fixed chart of when to hit, stand, double or split. Ignition’s Early Payout blackjack tables even highlight the correct move as your cards arrive. Is a live dealer casino worth playing?

It depends on what you want from an hour of play.

Live dealer suits you if you like table games and want to see a real card turn over. It also suits you if you are happy betting $10 or more a hand. And it suits you if you want to slow down. Fewer hands per hour is easier on a bankroll than 400 fast spins.

Skip it if your budget is small. Skip it if you want to practice for free first. Skip it if you are working through a deposit bonus. Software tables are cheaper to sit at, they let you play for nothing, and they earn rollover credit.

One more thing to plan for. Live tables stream video. A weak connection can freeze the table mid-hand. Play on wifi rather than a patchy mobile signal.
