According to a survey conducted by YouGov on behalf of the UK’s Betting & Gaming Council (BGC), 82% of gamblers think that free bets and other promotional offers from betting sites should be available to customers.
Another 54% of those surveyed agreed that prohibiting gambling promotions would encourage more people to seek out the same opportunities on the unregulated and riskier black market.
Gamblers opinions to non-gamblers
Let’s not forget that these opinions stem from those who bet regularly, not the general public. It’s safe to assume that non-gamblers would be less receptive to unrestrained gambling temptations if presented with the same tempting questions.
In the context of the UK, an impending promotion control regulation looms large against the backdrop of the forthcoming gambling-reform White Paper. However, it’s important to note that the drawn-out process involves consultations, debates, and a healthy dose of parliamentary or political maneuvering before any proposed limits become law.
Micheal Duger’s response to the survey
Michael Dugher, the BGC Chief Executive, responded to the survey results by advocating for a flexible position. He said even bettors could appreciate a good bargain provided there are rules to safeguard against the possibility of addiction and financial ruin.
