Player safety
I’m Jake Mercer, and I write about sports betting and online casinos. Betting should be entertainment, never a way to make money you need. You must be 21 or older to use the sites we cover. If you’re not 21, please don’t bet.
Signs gambling may be a problem
- You bet more money or more often than you planned.
- You chase losses by betting to win back what you lost.
- You borrow money, skip bills or hide your betting from people close to you.
- You feel anxious, irritable or low when you’re not betting.
- Gambling is hurting your work, sleep, relationships or finances.
If you see yourself in a few of these, it’s worth talking to someone.
Simple ways to stay in control
- Set a budget before you play, using money you can afford to lose.
- Set deposit limits and time limits, and don’t raise them in the middle of a losing streak.
- Never chase losses. Walk away when you hit your limit.
- Take regular breaks, and don’t bet when you’re stressed, angry or drinking.
- Check whether a site offers limits, cool-off periods or self-exclusion before you sign up. Tools vary by operator, so check the site’s own responsible gambling page.
A note on offshore sportsbooks
State self-exclusion programs are run by state regulators for operators licensed in that state. Offshore sites sit outside those programs, so signing up for a state list may not block you from them. If you need a break, ask each site to close or restrict your account, and consider blocking software on your devices.
Where to get help
- National Problem Gambling Helpline: 1-800-MY-RESET. Call, text or chat online at ncpgambling.org. It’s free, confidential and available 24/7 in all 50 states. (Details checked October 17, 2026.)
- It isn’t an emergency line. If you’re in crisis, call 911 or 988.
- Many states also run their own helplines and treatment programs. The NCPG site can point you to local help.
How we handle this
Daily Wager Zone earns commissions from some operators we cover. Read our affiliate disclosure. Commissions don’t change what we write about an operator’s terms.
